My Postpartum care journey began early on in my life, unfolding with lessons and experiences that have shaped who I am today. At the age of 16, I secured my first overnight, infant care job for a labor and delivery nurse. Caring for that new babe and gaining first-hand experience in supporting the mother through such a momentous time felt profoundly right in my bones. Following this calling, Herbalism was the next step in my journey as I enrolled in the “Holistic Health Practitioner” program at a local healing arts school in Grand Rapids, MI. What initially started as a small yet compelling pull toward the plant path at 18 has blossomed into an enriching and fulfilling decade-long+ relationship with plants and their incredible healing abilities.
At the age of 20, I found myself living in the city of Portland, Oregon, where I supported my best friend as she navigated the challenges of motherhood with her two young ones. This opportunity allowed me to once again experience the fulfillment that comes from supporting a mother that I loved dearly, all while pouring my heart and energy into nurturing and bonding with two little buddies. Before long, I successfully landed a rewarding position at a Montessori preschool, where I had the privilege of teaching in the RIE (Resources for Infant Educators) nursery, fostering a supportive and enriching environment for infants. During this time, I had the opportunity to attend an intensive RIE training program in Seattle, WA. As the preschool where I was employed decided to close their infant program, my role as a caregiver devolved into a combination of Nanny shares and the hosting of a structured, engaging in-home infant play group.
Over the next 10 years, I found myself living in a variety of different states across the country, learning about the art of farming and developing a deep, meaningful relationship with the land around me. Each location offered unique challenges and opportunities, shaping my understanding of plants and their medicinal properties. I fully immersed myself in the study of herbalism, dedicating countless hours to understanding the various natures and uses of different herbs. I also had the opportunity to work and receive training at a Waldorf Preschool located in Bend, OR. This experience allowed me to gain valuable insights into early childhood education within the unique framework of the Waldorf philosophy.
In 2020, I moved back to Grand Rapids to be near my family and Lake Michigan.
Pelvic Steaming quickly emerged as the next endeavor on my dream job list, leading me to become a Certified Peristeam Facilitator through Steamy Chick International. This practice of steaming has proven to be transformative and life changing for me, particularly in terms of balancing my menstrual cycle and gaining a deeper sense of my own medical autonomy. As I navigated the best ways to offer steaming as a service, I found myself drawn back to postpartum work, which truly serves as the intersection of all the paths I have ventured down. Becoming a Postpartum Doula has taught me so much about supporting new families during a crucial time in their lives, and I feel that this important work beautifully ties together my various interests in herbalism, infant care, women's health, nutritious food, and my natural inclination toward organization. This combination of passions enables me to create a fulfilling and meaningful career.
Thank you for taking the time to be here, and I look forward to working with you!
