Expert Postpartum care, serving the West MI Region

Hi! I’m Jane, Postpartum Doula and Certified Peristeam Facilitator trained through the Steamy Chick Institute. I’m here to support you, answer your questions, and discuss any concerns you may have. I aim to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can find support and get the most up to date information on postpartum care and well-being.

As a postpartum doula, my primary role is to support families during a delicate and transformative time. I step into homes where new parents may feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or uncertain about the changes they're experiencing. My presence is meant to provide both physical and emotional support.

I listen to the family's needs and tailor my assistance accordingly. This includes infant care, guidance on feeding, and soothing techniques. I also help with household tasks like meal prep, laundry, and organizing for the new arrival. Additionally, I offer postpartum planning sessions to help families anticipate their needs and feel supported during this transition.

More than just physical tasks, I offer reassurance. It’s common for new parents to question their abilities or feel isolated. I provide a compassionate ear, helping to normalize their feelings while sharing resources and evidence-based information. Sometimes, it’s those small moments of connection and validation that make a significant difference.

I also pay attention to the well-being of the parents. I encourage self-care and rest, reminding them that taking care of themselves is essential for caring for their baby. By fostering a supportive environment, I help the family navigate the challenges of early parenthood with confidence.

In this role, I strive to build a strong foundation for new parents. By offering practical skills, emotional support, and education, I hope to empower them as they embark on this journey together.

Postpartum Planning

Postpartum planning aids new parents in adjusting to parenthood by promoting mental well-being and reducing anxiety. It clarifies caregiver responsibilities and supports system establishment, like arranging household help or scheduling visits. A structured plan helps set realistic recovery expectations, identify postpartum mood disorder signs, and prioritize self-care. This preparation fosters bonding with the newborn while managing postpartum challenges effectively.

Family care referral list

A postpartum family care referral list benefits new parents by providing access to crucial support services, such as lactation consultants and pediatricians. It reduces stress by minimizing the search for help, enabling parents to focus on recovery and bonding with their newborn. The list also connects families with local resources and support groups, fostering community and enhancing well-being. Overall, a well-curated referral list is a valuable tool for smoother transitions and healthier family dynamics.

Body Care for Mother
Caring for Mother includes important practices and support methods to ensure her well-being after childbirth. These include soothing Herbal Teas designed to promote relaxation and aid recovery, along with nourishing Lactation Treats that assist in providing necessary nutrients for breastfeeding. Additionally, a Healing Sitz Bath can greatly help in recovery, while Belly Wrapping offers comfort and support. A Foot Bath provides relaxation, while Herbal Oiling nourishes the skin. Face and Belly masks can rejuvenate and refresh, providing a soothing experience for the skin.

Pelvic Steaming

After childbirth, many women experience a range of physical and emotional changes, and pelvic steaming can serve as a gentle way to support healing. The warmth and herbal infusion help to promote circulation, ease tension, and restore balance to the body. I guide my clients through the process, ensuring they feel comfortable and safe as they immerse themselves in the nurturing steam. It's rewarding to witness how this simple self-care ritual can foster relaxation and connection with one's body after the journey of pregnancy and birth. The practice not only aids in physical recovery but also encourages a moment of quiet reflection in the busy postpartum period.

Newborn Care

An especially enjoyable part of my work is newborn care! I provide guidance on newborn care, helping parents learn to recognize their baby's cues and establish a feeding routine. I assist with basic infant care tasks such as diapering, bathing, and soothing techniques, always emphasizing the importance of building confidence as new caregivers. I also offer emotional support, reminding parents that it’s normal to have questions and uncertainties. My goal is to create a nurturing environment where families can bond with their newborn while also taking care of their own needs during this significant transition.

Household Tasks

As a postpartum doula, I help new families manage household tasks that can be overwhelming after having a baby. Laundry can take up a lot of time, especially with cloth diapers that need careful washing and organizing. I assist in creating a laundry schedule and provide tips for dealing with stains and odors, as well as organizing clothing and diaper supplies efficiently. It's important to set up specific areas for baby items, like diapers, clothes, and feeding supplies, to make access easier during busy times. Cleaning is also crucial, as maintaining a tidy home enhances everyone's comfort. Together, we establish a cleaning routine that fits with caring for a newborn, helping families find their balance during this significant transition.

Meal Planning and Cooking

Meal planning and cooking are essential for supporting new families. After giving birth, many parents feel overwhelmed and lack time or energy for nutritious meals. I create simple, healthy meal plans based on their preferences and dietary needs. During visits, I organize a weekly menu, addressing specific cravings or aversions. I also demonstrate efficient cooking techniques, using fresh ingredients that can be prepared in bulk and frozen. This approach nourishes the body and reduces stress, allowing parents to focus on their newborn and recovery.

Sibling Support & Care

Sibling support and care play a crucial role in the transition to welcoming a new baby. The joy of becoming a big brother or sister is often accompanied by a mix of emotions, and it's important to nurture those feelings. I encourage siblings to be involved in simple tasks, like helping with diaper changes or making treats for mom, fostering a sense of connection and responsibility. During my visits, I take the time to engage with them, offering praise and reassurance, which helps to reinforce their importance in the family. By creating a supportive environment, I help ensure that everyone feels loved and included, making the journey smoother for the whole family.

“Peristeaming was a truly calm and rejuvenating experience. I was new to steaming but Jane took the time to craft an herbal blend specific to my cycle needs. She had handmade herbal infused body oils and some writing materials set out during the session. I felt pampered and tranquil in the space. Feeling such gratitude to have learned more about my body through Jane’s offerings. I would recommend this service to anybody looking to expand their perception of what reproductive care can look like for EVERYbody.” - Peristeam Client

“I had a steaming session with Jane and my relationship to my body changed forever. She is incredibly knowledgeable about herbs and the female reproductive system and she gave me a comprehensive introduction to the herbs we would be working with. I still to this day feel like she is someone trust and go to with any questions I may have and often refer back to the notes I took that day. Jane provides a nurturing space to relax and unwind. One of my favorite parts about the steam session was the journal that she included, which encouraged me to release any thoughts and/or emotions that came up during the session. Thank you, Jane, for creating and holding space for us to heal and love on our bodies.” - Peristeam Client
